Žilina, December 21, 2025. Publishing also belongs to the Servare et Manere portfolio. These are publications that in some way shed light on local history in the Žilina Self-Governing Region. Currently, there is great interest in local sports history, to which Servare et Manere responded by publishing the monograph “100 Years of Žilina Hockey – 100 rokov žilinského hokeja”, which de facto took three decades to create. The author, long-time sports journalist Róbert Kašša, spent hundreds of hours not only studying the period press, but also personal meetings with players, coaches and officials who left the most significant mark on the history of Žilina hockey. It was precisely respect for them that was the greatest driving force in the extensive search for historical events. Many of them have been covered in previous publications about Žilina hockey, but at the same time many of them were incomplete, inaccurate, or even unfounded. This book tries to put several traditional inconsistencies in perspective, although this is not its main mission. The author’s priority was to bring to light new facts, connections, or photographs that would complete the mosaic of the remarkable story of this beautiful sport near Dubň as much as possible. Thanks to this, you will find that Žilina has made a significant mark many times, not only in the Slovak and Czech-Slovak history of ice hockey, but also in the international one. You will see that from a historical point of view, the “wolves” are not poor relatives in the family of famous hockey clubs, but its pioneering, unique, and respected members.
In the words of the author Róbert Kašša: “I have been collecting materials about Žilina hockey since I started contributing to newspapers as a young journalism student, that is, for more than thirty years. I intensified my search for historical events of this beautiful sport in connection with the exhibition for the 90th anniversary of hockey near Dubň, which I realized in 2015. At that time, I said to myself that the rich history of Žilina hockey would deserve a corresponding presentation in book form in addition to the “hundred”. I have dedicated the last five years to compiling and writing the monograph itself, and in the last year I went to the maximum within my capabilities. I would like to thank the NGO Servare et Manere, specifically the Secretary-General Mr Marek Sobola, for the help they provided us in publishing this monograph.”
Servare et Manere received a subsidy from the Žilina Self-Governing Region in the amount of €18,000 for the publication of the book.
