Heřmanice, April 27, 2025. A unique local museum was created in Heřmanice in Slezská Ostrava, the opening of which was associated with the planting of the 39th Tree of Peace. This is the second tree in the Czech Republic and the first in Silesia. Sight, smell, touch and hearing – with these senses visitors can perceive the exhibits of the new Heřmanice Museum. Its exhibition was made available in the renovated building of the former morgue. As part of the project “History with all senses – Historie všemi smysly”, the building was filled with exhibits related to the history of the former agricultural village. The entire project also paid attention to the knowledge of culture and traditions. The museum will be open during the opening hours of the Parish Garden, which as a community center is an excellent connection between everyday and church life, making it a unique project for the entire region.
Leoš Ryška, parish priest of the Heřmanice Parish: “You can see everyday objects here, such as a coffee grinder, skates and an iron, but also various liturgical objects.”
Ms Věra Pernicová, a native of Heřmanice: “I am very excited, because I have actually lived here for 82 years and I like it very much.”
Mayor of Slezská Ostrava Richard Vereš: “The project also includes cultural cooperation. Parishioners from Heřmanice traveled to Slovakia and visited the Kysuce Museum in Čadca and today our partners from Slovakia, including folklore groups, supplemented the program of the opening ceremony.”
Marek Sobola, founder of the Servare et Manere association and also Honorary Consul of Romania: “The tree as a tool of cultural diplomacy, with its roots, symbolizes the history to which we should report and from which we should learn. And here, in Heřmanice, a developing community is growing. Interpersonal relationships should develop in the same way as this tree grows and develops.”
