Rep. n° 08/2025

Púchov, April 30, 2025. His Excellency Călin Fabian, Romanian Ambassador to Slovakia, entrusted Dr. Marek Sobola, Honorary Consul of Romania, with his representation at the commemoration service in Púchov, which took place on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the city’s liberation from fascism. A significant point of the program was the unveiling of the Monument of tragedy and respect (Pamätník tragédie a úcty), which was created as a tribute to the victims of wars, the Slovak National Uprising and the Holocaust.

The event was attended by numerous guests, including the Mayor of Púchov Katarína Heneková, the Governor of the Trenčín Self-Governing Region Jaroslav Baška, Col. Milan Ludvik, a member of the Military Office of the President of the Slovak Republic and members of the Honour Guard of the President of the Slovak Republic, Director of the Holocaust Museum Martin Korčok, members of the 82nd Joint Support Brigade Trenčín, ecclesiastical representatives, members of the Slovak Union of Anti-Fascist Fighters, city councilors, Púchov volunteer firefighters, other guests and the general public.

After the speeches, the participants of the event moved to the Monument of tragedy and respect, which is located in the back of the Europark near the Púchov Gymnasium. The memorial consists of three Corten steel plates symbolically bent and set into a concrete pedestal. These plates symbolize the interconnectedness of all victims of tragic events during the time of lack of freedom.
