Bucharest/Bratislava, june 2023. At the proposal of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Slovakia His Excellency Călin Fabian and at the request of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania, dr. Marek Sobola Secretary-General of Servare et Manere, has been appointed the Honorary Consul of Romania to the Slovak Republic. The Consular Patent was issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania on June 14, 2023, and the consent of the receiving country, the Exequatur, was signed by the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic on June 22, 2023. The Consulate is based in Žilina with jurisdiction and competencies over the Žilina and Trenčín self-governing regions. Marek Sobola will represent the interests of Romania on the territory of both regions and develop mainly economic and cultural diplomacy. The first steps of the newly appointed Honorary Consul led to the Romanian Embassy in Bratislava.

Interestingly, according to the 2021 population census, up to 10,232 Slovaks live in Romania. The Honorary Consul plans to develop bilateral relations in this field as well. Thanks to the international initiative Tree of Peace, Marek Sobola has long-term cooperation with important Romanian partners and promotes Romanian culture and history in Slovakia. In addition to the Romanian Embassy in Bratislava, also cooperates with the Romanian Royal Family and the Romanian Armed Forces.
