Tree of Peace in Kysuce Village Museum in Vychylovka

Vychylovka, a part of Nová Bystrica village, October 28, 2018. A common oak sapling (Quercus robur) was planted near the Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary in Kysuce Village Museum as part of the project The Tree of Peace commemorating the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I. The Tree of Peace was planted personally by the president of the Žilina Region, Erika Jurinová; Miloš Jesenský, director of the Kysuce Museum and Marek Sobola. It is noteworthy that the planted oak is of the “Concordia” variety, which in Latin means harmony because harmony and dialogue are the cornerstones of peace. During the First World War most of the victims were from the current territory of the Žilina Region near the Kysuce Region. Of the total known number of 6,000 victims from Orava, Kysuce and Upper Považie approximately 1,500 were from the Kysuce Region.
