Rep. n° 11/2026
Lenartov, August 22, 2026. The village of Lenartov in eastern Slovakia commemorated the 200th anniversary of the construction and consecration of the church of St. Leonard. The celebrations were also attended by guests and delegations from France, Belgium, Austria, Slovenia and the European Union. The program included a spiritual ceremony, the matriculation of the Lenartov bridge and, in particular, the planting of the Red Oak – the 43rd Tree of Peace.
The tree was planted on behalf of the French Ambassador to Slovakia by Mr. Jacques de Noray, chargé d’affaires a.i., the mayor of the village of Lenartov and members of the International Federation of Associations and Places Dedicated to Saint Leonard – Fil-Léo (Fédération Internationale Des Associations Et Lieux Dédiés À Saint Léonard – Fil-Léo). The memorial tree in Lenartov is Quercus rubra ‘Aurea’ variety. It is a distinctive ornamental cultivar of oak growing in the USA and Canada, originating from the Netherlands and discovered before 1878.
The celebrations of the bicentennial of the Lenartov Church thus became celebrations of European solidarity, dialogue, friendship and mutual understanding. And these are also the ideas of the international Tree of Peace initiative.
